Scalability Services:  Tableau Implementation

Carnegie Learning needed a solution that optimized its ability to make decisions and provide analytical reports for internal stakeholders.

The Situation

Similar to many companies that are growing organically as well as inorganically, the ability for the company’s operations and systems have been challenged with keeping up.  Thus, the company’s decision makers have had to make use of manually manipulated spreadsheets generated from disparate systems.  This practice not only increases the chance for errors but is also extremely inefficient and ineffective.

Our Solution

First, we worked with the client’s stakeholders to identify their reporting requirements across multiple functions.  Understanding these requirements enabled SPX to rapidly design report and dashboard prototypes that we could share with the client to obtain their feedback early in the process.

Second, we identified the sources of data and began to work directly with the client’s business application owners and database administrators to connect Tableau to those particular applications.  We also worked with the client to ensure that the data structures that they maintained would provide the level of reporting granularity that they needed for their reporting to be effective.

Results

  • Decreased the total amount of time and manual effort required to produce reports on the client’s key performance indicators by an estimated 90%
  • Improved the client’s financial consolidation and close cycle across multiple systems that need to be temporarily maintained during acquisition integrations
  • Improved the ability of stakeholders to rapidly gather business insights and make decisions dramatically
